Standard hardened vise jaws are excellent for gripping square or rectangular stock, but they often struggle with round, curved, or delicate parts, leading to poor clamping force or surface damage. By milling the exact negative shape of your workpiece directly into these blank jaws, you create a custom fixture that encapsulates the part. This maximizes the gripping surface area, ensures perfect part location (repeatability), and allows for aggressive machining without the risk of the part slipping or being crushed. Designed specifically for the GT Modular Vise system, they integrate perfectly into your existing setups.

Q1: Should I choose Aluminum or Steel soft jaws?
A: Choose Aluminum if you are machining delicate parts, need to avoid scratching the workpiece, or want to machine the jaws very quickly. Aluminum is also great for short runs. Choose Steel if you are clamping harder materials, need higher clamping pressure, or are setting up a job for a long production run where aluminum jaws might wear out too quickly.
Q2: How do I machine the soft jaws accurately?
A: To ensure the jaws hold the part accurately under pressure, you must machine them while they are clamped together. Place a spacer (often called a "jaw spacer" or "bushing") between the jaws, clamp the vise to the exact pressure you will use for the actual part, and then CNC mill the desired pocket or profile into the jaws. This pre-loads the vise and eliminates any backlash.
Q3: Will these soft jaws fit vises other than the GT series?
A: These specific soft jaws are pre-drilled and counterbored to match the bolt spacing and mounting interface of the GT Precision Modular Vise series. While they may happen to fit other brands with identical bolt patterns, we highly recommend verifying the hole spacing (center-to-center) and bolt size before ordering for non-GT vises.
Q4: Can I get custom-sized soft jaws (e.g., extra tall or extra wide)?
A:Yes. While we stock standard sizes that match the width of the vises (100mm, 150mm, etc.), we can manufacture custom soft jaw blanks (extra tall for deep parts, or extra wide to hold multiple parts side-by-side) upon request. Please provide your required dimensions when requesting a quote.
