The F1 Offset Boring Head is an indispensable tool for any machine shop utilizing manual knee mills (like Bridgeports), horizontal boring mills, or CNC machining centers. When standard drill bits or reamers cannot achieve the required hole diameter or positional accuracy, the offset boring head is the solution. By turning the micro-adjustable dial, the operator can offset the boring bar from the spindle centerline, allowing for the precise machining of large or non-standard internal diameters, as well as external turning and facing operations.
Precision Micro-Adjustment: Features a clear, easy-to-read micrometer dial. Each graduation typically represents 0.01mm (metric) or 0.001" (imperial) of adjustment, allowing you to dial in exact hole dimensions with confidence.
Wide Machining Range: The head features multiple boring bar mounting holes (vertical and horizontal). By moving the boring bar to different holes and adjusting the offset, a single 50mm (2") head can bore holes ranging from 10mm up to 125mm (0.4" to 5").
Interchangeable Shank Design: The back of the F1 head features a standard internal thread (e.g., 1-1/2"-18). This allows you to easily swap out the mounting arbor to fit different machines (R8 for Bridgeports, Morse Taper for lathes/drills, BT/SK for CNCs).
Rugged Construction: Forged from high-quality tool steel, precision ground, and hardened to withstand the heavy radial loads and interrupted cuts associated with rough boring and facing.
Secure Clamping: Equipped with robust locking screws that rigidly secure the boring bar and lock the sliding dovetail mechanism in place once the desired diameter is set, preventing any movement during the cut.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source premium hole-making tools directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Complete Boring Sets: We offer the F1 Boring Head as a standalone unit or as a Complete Set housed in a fitted case, which includes the boring head, your choice of shank, a set of carbide-tipped boring bars, and all necessary hex keys.
Strict Quality Control: Every sliding dovetail and lead screw is hand-fitted and inspected for smooth operation and minimal backlash.
OEM & Customization: We offer custom laser engraving of your brand logo and part numbers directly onto the boring heads for retail packaging.
Q1: What size boring bars do the different F1 heads accept?
A: The bar capacity depends on the outer diameter of the boring head:
F1-50 (2" Head): Accepts 12mm (or 1/2") shank boring bars.
F1-75 (3" Head): Accepts 18mm (or 3/4") shank boring bars.
F1-100 (4" Head): Accepts 25mm (or 1") shank boring bars.
Q2: What is the difference between a "Rough" (F1) and a "Fine" boring head?
A:
F1 Rough Boring Heads: Have a large offset range and utilize a sliding dovetail design. They are highly versatile, great for heavy material removal, and can bore a massive range of diameters. Adjustment is typically 0.01mm.
Fine Boring Heads: Are modular, highly balanced, and designed for finishing cuts only. They have a very small adjustment range but offer extreme precision (often 0.002mm or 0.001mm adjustments) for tight-tolerance bearing fits.
Q3: How do I read the adjustment dial? Does it adjust on the radius or diameter?
A: You must check the specific model, but most standard F1 boring heads adjust on the radius. This means if you turn the dial by 0.01mm, the boring bar moves out by 0.01mm, which will increase the diameter of your hole by 0.02mm. Always make a test cut and measure before your final finishing pass.
Q4: Can I use this boring head on multiple different milling machines?
A: Yes! Because the F1 head has a threaded back, you can buy one head and multiple cheap arbors (shanks). You can thread an R8 arbor onto it for your manual mill today, and swap it for a BT40 arbor tomorrow to use it in your CNC machine.
Achieve perfect internal diameters with our versatile F1 boring heads.
