The R8 Drill Chuck Arbor is a fundamental accessory for any machine shop utilizing manual knee mills. Since drill chucks typically feature a female internal taper (like a Jacobs Taper or B-Taper), they cannot be mounted directly into a milling machine's spindle. This arbor acts as the perfect bridge. The R8 shank is secured into the mill's spindle using the machine's drawbar, while the front taper provides a solid, friction-fit mounting surface for your keyless or keyed drill chuck, allowing you to perform drilling, reaming, and tapping operations with ease.
High-Precision Grinding: Both the R8 shank and the front mounting taper (JT or B-taper) are precision ground to exacting tolerances. This ensures maximum contact area for a secure friction fit and minimizes runout (T.I.R. ≤ 0.005mm).
Premium Material & Hardness: Constructed from high-quality 20CrMnTi alloy steel. The arbors are case-hardened to HRC 50-55 to resist wear and prevent the tang or taper from twisting under heavy drilling torque.
Wide Range of Tapers: Available with all standard front mounting tapers to fit any drill chuck on the market, including Jacobs Tapers (JT0, JT1, JT2, JT3, JT6, JT33) and DIN B-Tapers (B10, B12, B16, B18, B22).
Standard Drawbar Thread: The R8 end features the industry-standard 7/16"-20 UNF internal thread (metric M12 available upon request) to perfectly match your Bridgeport's drawbar.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source essential manual milling accessories directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Strict Quality Control: Every arbor is inspected using advanced air gauges to ensure perfect taper angles and concentricity before packaging.
Complete Tooling Solutions: We also manufacture the matching Keyless and Keyed Drill Chucks, allowing you to purchase the complete assembly from a single reliable supplier.
OEM & Customization: We offer laser engraving of your brand logo and part numbers directly onto the arbors for retail packaging.
Q1: How do I know which front taper (JT or B) I need for my drill chuck?
A: You must check the specifications stamped on the body of your drill chuck. It will usually say something like "Capacity 1-13mm, Mount B16" or "Cap 1/32-1/2, JT33". You must choose an arbor with a front taper that exactly matches the mount specified on your chuck.
Q2: How do I install the drill chuck onto the arbor?
A: The connection is a friction fit.
Thoroughly clean both the male taper on the arbor and the female taper inside the drill chuck with a degreaser (like brake cleaner) to remove all oil.
Retract the jaws of the drill chuck completely.
Place the chuck onto the arbor.
Use a wooden or brass mallet to strike the nose of the chuck sharply once or twice to seat the tapers together. (Never hit the chuck with a steel hammer).
Q3: How do I remove an old drill chuck from an arbor?
A: The easiest and safest way is to use a set of drill chuck removal wedges. You insert the wedges between the back of the drill chuck and the shoulder of the arbor and tap them together, which forces the chuck off the taper without damaging either component.
Q4: Can I use this arbor for side milling?
A:No. Drill chucks and drill chuck arbors are designed strictly for axial loads (drilling straight down). Using a drill chuck to hold an end mill for side cutting (radial load) is extremely dangerous, as the chuck can vibrate loose from the arbor taper and fly off. Always use a proper collet chuck or end mill holder for milling operations.
Equip your manual mills with our precision-ground drill chuck arbors.
