The DIN 2080 NT MTA Adapter provides a highly rigid and precise method to utilize these tools in conventional manual milling machines (like Bridgeport-style knee mills) and boring mills equipped with an NT/ISO spindle taper. The "MTA" designation specifically refers to Morse Taper tools that have a flat tang. The adapter features an internal slot that engages this tang, providing positive drive rotation and allowing for easy tool removal using a standard drift key.
Positive Tang Drive (MTA): The internal bore is machined with a slot to accept the flat tang of standard Morse Taper drills. This design provides a positive mechanical drive that prevents the tool from spinning inside the taper under heavy drilling torque.

Q1: What is the difference between an MTA and an MTB Morse Taper Adapter?
A: This is a critical distinction:
MTA (Morse Taper with Tang): The tool has a flat "tang" at the end. It relies purely on friction to hold the tool, and the tang prevents rotation. MTA is strictly for drilling and reaming (axial loads only). If you try to mill with an MTA tool, the side loads will cause the taper to loosen and the tool will fall out.
MTB (Morse Taper with Drawbar Thread): The tool has an internal threaded hole at the rear. The adapter has a built-in screw that pulls the tool tightly into the taper. MTB is designed for milling (radial loads) because the screw positively locks the tool in place.
Q2: How do I know which MTA size I need (MT1, MT2, MT3, MT4, MT5)?
A: You must measure the large end diameter of the Morse Taper shank on your drill or reamer:
MT1: Approx. 12.065mm (0.475")
MT2: Approx. 17.780mm (0.700")
MT3: Approx. 23.825mm (0.938")

Q3: Can I use this NT40 holder in a BT40 or SK40 CNC machine?
A:No. While NT40, BT40, and SK40 all share the same 7/24 taper angle, the top portion is completely different. NT holders have a cylindrical pilot and an internal thread for a manual drawbar. BT and SK holders have a specific V-flange for an Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) and internal threads designed to accept a pull stud (retention knob). They are not interchangeable.
Q4: How do I remove the drill from the adapter?
A: You simply insert a standard Morse Taper drift key (a tapered steel wedge) into the cross-slot on the side of the adapter and tap it lightly with a hammer. The wedge will force the tang of the tool outward, releasing the taper lock.
