Q1: What is the difference between NT, ISO, and DIN 2080?
A: In the context of tool holders, they generally refer to the exact same thing. DIN 2080 is the official German standard. NT (National Taper) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) are common industry names for this 7/24 taper design that features a cylindrical section behind the flange and an internal thread for a manual drawbar.
Q2: Can I use an NT40 holder in a BT40 or SK40 CNC machine?
A:No. While NT40, BT40, and SK40 all share the same 7/24 taper angle, the top portion is completely different. NT holders have a cylindrical pilot and an internal thread for a manual drawbar. BT and SK holders have a specific V-flange for an Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) and internal threads designed to accept a pull stud (retention knob). They are not interchangeable.
Q3: How do I know what drawbar thread I need?
A: The standard metric threads are:
NT30: M12 x 1.75
NT40: M16 x 2.0
NT50: M24 x 3.0 Important: Many machines built for the North American market use Imperial (inch) drawbars (e.g., 1/2"-13 for NT30, 5/8"-11 for NT40). Please verify your machine's drawbar thread before ordering. We can supply both metric and imperial threads.
Q4: Does the holder come with the collet nut?
A: Yes, all of our NT ER Collet Chucks come fully assembled with the appropriate ER clamping nut. Collets and spanner wrenches are sold separately.
