The SC Precision Milling Chuck (often referred to as a Power Milling Chuck) bridges the gap between the extreme holding power of a Side Lock (Weldon) holder and the high concentricity of an ER collet chuck. When machining tough alloys, titanium, or hardened steels, standard collets can slip, and side lock holders can introduce runout. The SC chuck solves this by utilizing a thick-walled body and a specialized clamping nut fitted with needle bearings. As the nut is tightened, it compresses a heavy-duty straight collet evenly around the tool shank, generating immense, uniform clamping pressure without twisting the collet, resulting in zero tool pullout and exceptional precision.
Massive Clamping Force: The needle-bearing nut design drastically reduces friction during tightening, converting torque directly into radial clamping force. It provides up to 3-4 times the gripping power of a standard ER collet chuck, completely eliminating tool slip during heavy cuts.
Ultra-High Precision: The thick, rigid body and precision-ground straight collets ensure a maximum Total Indicator Runout (T.I.R.) of ≤ 0.005mm (0.0002") at 3xD. This extends tool life and guarantees superior surface finishes.
Vibration Dampening: The robust construction and uniform clamping pressure naturally absorb cutting vibrations (chatter), allowing for deeper cuts, faster feed rates, and smoother operation even in interrupted cuts.
Premium Material & Hardness: Constructed from high-grade 20CrMnTi alloy steel and case-hardened to HRC 56-60 for maximum durability and wear resistance.
Versatile Straight Collets: The SC chuck uses SC/C-type straight collets, allowing a single chuck (e.g., SC32) to securely grip a wide range of tool shank diameters (from 6mm up to 32mm) with perfect concentricity.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source premium high-performance CNC tooling directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Comprehensive Spindle Compatibility: Available for all major CNC machining centers, including BT30/40/50, CAT40/50, SK40/50, and NT30/40/50 tapers.
Dynamic Balancing (Standard/Optional): Our power milling chucks are dynamically balanced to G6.3 at 15,000 RPM or G2.5 at 25,000 RPM to protect your spindle bearings during high-speed machining.
OEM & Customization: We offer laser engraving of your brand logo, part numbers, and custom balancing specifications directly onto the tool holders for retail distribution.
Q1: What is the difference between an SC Power Milling Chuck and an ER Collet Chuck?
A: ER collet chucks are highly versatile and great for general-purpose milling and drilling, but they have a lower clamping force. SC Power Milling Chucks are designed specifically for heavy-duty milling. They have a much thicker body, use straight collets instead of angled ones, and utilize a needle-bearing nut to generate significantly higher gripping power to prevent tool pullout during aggressive cuts.
Q2: Do I need special spanner wrenches for the SC chuck?
A: Yes. Because the SC chuck nut is completely round (to maintain balance at high speeds) and contains needle bearings, it requires a specialized hook spanner wrench or a roller bearing wrench to tighten it properly without damaging the nut.
Q3: Can I clamp a tool directly into the SC chuck without a collet?
A: Yes, but only if the tool shank diameter exactly matches the internal bore diameter of the chuck (e.g., putting a 32mm shank tool directly into an SC32 chuck). For all other sizes, you must use the appropriate SC straight collet to reduce the bore size to match your tool.
Q4: Are the straight collets included with the chuck?
A: Typically, the chuck and the collets are sold separately so you can customize your tooling setup. However, we do offer complete SC Milling Chuck Sets that include the chuck, a full range of straight collets, and the required spanner wrench, all packaged in a durable aluminum or plastic case.
