The APU Drill Chuck Holder is the ultimate hole-making solution for modern CNC milling machines and machining centers. Traditional drill chucks rely on a friction-fit Morse or Jacobs taper (like B16) to connect the chuck to the arbor. Under heavy vibration, sudden stops, or high-speed rotation, these two-piece setups can easily separate, causing the chuck and cutting tool to crash into the workpiece. The APU series solves this by machining the chuck body and the tool holder shank from a single piece of alloy steel. This integrated design guarantees maximum safety, superior concentricity, and a shorter tool overhang for increased Z-axis clearance.
Integrated Solid Construction: The one-piece design completely eliminates the connection gap between the arbor and the chuck. This prevents the chuck from spinning loose or falling off, ensuring 100% safety during automated CNC cycles.
Automatic Self-Tightening: Features a keyless, self-locking internal gear mechanism. As the drilling resistance increases, the jaws automatically grip the drill bit tighter, preventing tool slippage even during aggressive feed rates.
High Precision & Low Runout: Precision-ground jaws and a unified body structure deliver excellent concentricity, typically maintaining a Total Indicator Runout (T.I.R.) of ≤ 0.05mm, extending drill bit life and improving hole accuracy.
Titanium-Plated Jaws (Optional): The clamping jaws are hardened to HRC 56-60 for extreme wear resistance. We also offer titanium-coated jaws for enhanced durability and grip on hardened carbide drill shanks.
Spanner Wrench Release: While tightening is done by hand, heavy drilling can cause the self-tightening mechanism to lock firmly. Each holder includes a specialized spanner wrench to easily safely release the tool without damaging the chuck.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source premium CNC tool holders directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Comprehensive Size Range: We manufacture APU holders for all standard clamping ranges: APU08 (1-8mm), APU13 (1-13mm), and APU16 (3-16mm).
All Major Spindle Tapers: Available in BT30, BT40, BT50, SK40, SK50, CAT40, CAT50, NT, and MT shanks to fit any machine in your shop.
Dynamic Balancing: Available with optional high-speed dynamic balancing (e.g., G2.5 @ 20,000 RPM) to protect your machine's spindle bearings.
Q1: What is the difference between an APU chuck and a standard drill chuck on an arbor?
A: A standard drill chuck is pressed onto a separate arbor (like a BT40 to B16 adapter) using a friction taper. Heavy vibration in a CNC machine can cause this friction fit to fail, dropping the chuck. An APU chuck is "integrated"—the BT40 shank and the chuck are one solid piece of steel. It cannot fall apart, making it much safer and more rigid for CNC use.
Q2: What do APU08, APU13, and APU16 mean?
A: These designations refer to the maximum clamping capacity of the chuck jaws:
APU08: Clamps drill bits from 1.0mm to 8.0mm.
APU13: Clamps drill bits from 1.0mm to 13.0mm (approx. 1/2").
APU16: Clamps drill bits from 3.0mm to 16.0mm (approx. 5/8").
Q3: Can I use an APU drill chuck for milling or rigid tapping?
A:No. APU chucks are designed strictly for drilling and reaming (axial loads with clockwise rotation). Milling creates lateral (side) loads that will damage the internal jaws. Tapping requires the spindle to reverse direction, which will cause the self-tightening APU chuck to instantly loosen and drop the tap. For milling or tapping, you must use an ER collet chuck or a dedicated tapping holder.
Q4: Do I need a chuck key to tighten it?
A: No, APU chucks are keyless and self-tightening. You simply hand-tighten the chuck around the drill bit. As the machine starts drilling, the cutting torque will automatically lock the jaws tighter. You only use the included spanner wrench to loosen the chuck when changing tools.
