The BT FMA Face Mill Arbor is engineered specifically for heavy-duty face milling operations on modern CNC mills. While smaller face mills use a single central locking screw (FMB style), large-diameter cutters generate massive torque that requires a stronger connection. The FMA design solves this by featuring four threaded mounting holes directly on the face of the arbor. This allows large shell end mills to be bolted securely to the holder, providing maximum torque transmission, eliminating cutter slippage, and ensuring stable, vibration-free cutting during aggressive roughing passes.
Four-Bolt FMA Mounting: Designed for large face mills (typically 100mm / 4" diameter and above). The 4-bolt face mounting provides superior rigidity and safety compared to single-screw designs under heavy cutting loads.
High-Precision Taper & Pilot: Both the BT spindle taper and the front mounting pilot are precision ground in a single setup. Runout (T.I.R.) is strictly controlled to ≤ 0.005mm, ensuring even insert wear and excellent surface finishes.
Heavy-Duty Drive Keys: Integrated, hardened drive keys engage the slots on the back of the face mill, absorbing the immense shear forces generated during heavy interrupted cuts.
Premium Material & Hardness: Constructed from high-quality 20CrMnTi alloy steel. The surface is hardened to HRC 56-60 for excellent wear resistance, while the core remains tough to withstand heavy shock loads.
Dynamic Balancing: Available with standard balancing or precision dynamically balanced to G6.3 or G2.5 at high RPMs to protect your machine's spindle bearings.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source premium CNC milling accessories directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Strict Quality Control: Every arbor is inspected using advanced air gauges and concentricity testers before packaging to ensure perfect taper contact (AT3 standard or better).
Ready to Use: We supply the FMA arbor complete with the pre-installed drive keys and the necessary face mounting bolts.
OEM & Customization: We offer laser engraving of your brand logo, part numbers, and custom balancing specifications directly onto the tool holders.
Q1: What is the exact difference between FMA and FMB face mill arbors?
A:
FMB Style: Uses a single central locking screw that threads into the center of the arbor pilot. It is typically used for smaller to medium face mills (up to ~80mm or 3").
FMA Style: Does not use a center screw. Instead, it has four threaded holes on the flat face of the arbor. The face mill is secured using four separate bolts. This provides massive clamping force and is required for large face mills (typically 100mm / 4" and larger) taking heavy cuts.
Q2: How do I choose the correct FMA arbor size for my cutter?
A: You need to match the pilot diameter of the arbor to the internal bore diameter of your face mill. Standard FMA pilot sizes are usually 25.4mm (1"), 31.75mm (1-1/4"), 38.1mm (1-1/2"), and 50.8mm (2"). Example: If your large face mill has a 38.1mm center bore, you need a BT50-FMA38.1 arbor.
Q3: Does this arbor support Coolant-Through (AD/B)?
A: Standard FMA arbors are typically solid (Form AD) because coolant is usually flooded externally for large face mills. However, we can manufacture Form AD/B (coolant through the flange) upon customer request for specialized tooling setups.
Q4: Are the mounting bolts and drive keys included?
A: Yes, all our FMA face mill arbors come fully assembled with the hardened drive keys and include the four necessary mounting bolts to secure your cutter.
Maximize your large-diameter milling capabilities with our rigid FMA arbors.
