For decades, machinists using manual knee mills and conventional boring machines have relied on a two-piece system for drilling: an NT taper arbor with a Jacobs Taper (JT) end, onto which a separate drill chuck is pressed. While functional, this setup has inherent flaws: the chuck can spin on the arbor under heavy torque, or worse, fall off completely when retracting a stuck drill bit. The DIN 2080 NT APU Integrated Drill Chuck solves these issues permanently. By manufacturing the chuck jaws, mechanism, and the NT machine taper from a single piece of forged steel, we eliminate the weak JT connection entirely. The result is a highly precise, ultra-rigid keyless drill chuck that can handle aggressive drilling operations without ever slipping or separating.
Integrated (One-Piece) Design: The APU chuck and the NT taper are a single solid unit. This completely eliminates the risk of the chuck spinning on or falling off a Jacobs taper arbor, providing absolute safety and reliability during heavy drilling and deep-hole retraction.
Self-Tightening Mechanism: Features a precision keyless design. As drilling torque increases, the internal mechanism automatically grips the drill shank tighter, preventing the tool from slipping even under heavy feed rates.
High Precision Runout: Because there is no secondary connection (like a JT taper) to introduce error, the APU design offers superior concentricity. We guarantee a maximum Total Indicator Runout (T.I.R.) of ≤ 0.05mm at the chuck nose, ensuring accurate hole sizes and extending drill life.
Titanium-Plated Jaws: The internal gripping jaws are precision-ground and often titanium-plated (TiN coated) for exceptional wear resistance and maximum gripping friction on hardened drill shanks.

Q1: Why is an APU Integrated Chuck better than a standard drill chuck on an arbor?
A: The main advantage is reliability and rigidity. A standard chuck is pressed onto a tapered arbor (Jacobs Taper). Under heavy side loads, vibration, or when pulling a drill out of a deep hole, that press-fit can fail, causing the chuck to fall off. The APU is one solid piece of steel; it physically cannot separate, and the lack of a joint makes it much more rigid and accurate.
Q2: Do I need a chuck key to tighten an APU chuck?
A:No. APU chucks are "keyless" and self-tightening. You hand-tighten the collar to grip the drill bit. As the machine spindle turns and the drill encounters resistance, the internal mechanism automatically tightens the jaws further. A spanner wrench is often provided to help release the chuck after heavy drilling.
Q3: Can I use an APU chuck for milling operations?
A:No, absolutely not. Drill chucks (even integrated APU styles) are designed strictly for axial loads (drilling straight down). They are not designed to handle the radial (side) loads generated by milling cutters. Using an end mill in a drill chuck will cause the tool to pull out, ruining the workpiece and potentially destroying the chuck jaws. For milling, use an ER Collet Chuck or a Weldon (Side Lock) holder.
Q4: Can I use this NT40 holder in a BT40 or SK40 CNC machine?
A:No. While NT40, BT40, and SK40 all share the same 7/24 taper angle, NT holders have a cylindrical pilot and an internal thread for a manual drawbar. They do not have the V-flange required for an Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) or the threads for a pull stud.
