When machining deep pockets, steep walls, or complex mold cavities, standard ER collet chucks often cause interference due to their large nut diameters. The SDC / DC Slim Collet System is designed to solve this exact problem. The "DC" (Direct Clamping / Slim) collet features a much smaller taper angle (typically 6 to 8 degrees) compared to an ER collet. This allows the collet to sit deeper inside a remarkably slender tool holder. The "pull-back" mechanism ensures that as the nut is tightened, the collet is drawn perfectly straight into the holder's taper, delivering massive gripping force and ultra-high precision without the bulk of a traditional collet nut.
Ultra-Slim Profile: Designed to be used with slim chucks, providing maximum clearance for deep cavity machining, reducing the need for excessively long (and vibration-prone) cutting tools.
0.005mm High Precision: The shallow taper angle and extended gripping length ensure a Total Indicator Runout (T.I.R.) of ≤ 0.005mm, drastically improving surface finish and extending the life of micro end mills and drills.
Strong Gripping Torque: The pull-back seating action creates a uniform, 360-degree clamping force along the entire shank of the cutting tool, preventing tool pull-out during high-speed or high-feed milling.
Premium Spring Steel: Manufactured from high-quality SUJ2 or 65Mn spring steel, hardened to HRC 44-48, and sub-zero treated to maintain elasticity and accuracy over thousands of tool changes.
Mirror Finished Surfaces: The internal bore and external taper are precision-ground and polished to ensure flawless contact with the tool holder, maximizing rigidity and minimizing vibration.
Direct Manufacturer Savings: Bypass trading companies and source premium high-precision CNC collets directly from our factory for highly competitive wholesale pricing.
Comprehensive Size Range: We manufacture the full spectrum of SDC/DC collet sizes to fit your specific slim chucks:
DC4: Clamping range 1.0mm - 4.0mm
DC6: Clamping range 2.0mm - 6.0mm
DC8: Clamping range 2.0mm - 8.0mm
DC10: Clamping range 2.0mm - 10.0mm
DC12: Clamping range 3.0mm - 12.0mm
Strict Quality Control: Every single collet is inspected using high-precision optical comparators and runout gauges before packaging to guarantee it meets the 5-micron standard.
Complete Tooling Solutions: We also manufacture the corresponding BT, SK, and HSK Slim Chuck Tool Holders and specialized clamping nuts to provide a complete, guaranteed-accuracy system
Q1: What is the main difference between an ER collet and a DC (Slim) collet?
A: The primary differences are the taper angle and the physical profile. ER collets have a wider 16-degree taper, giving them a larger clamping range (usually 1mm of collapse) but requiring a bulkier nut. DC collets have a much shallower taper (around 6-8 degrees). They have a smaller clamping range (typically only 0.5mm or exact size) but offer superior runout accuracy, higher gripping force, and allow for a much slimmer tool holder design for tight clearances.
Q2: Are SDC collets and DC collets the same thing?
A: Yes, in the machining industry, "SDC" (Slim Direct Collet) and "DC" collets generally refer to the same standard of slim-profile, shallow-taper collets used in high-speed slim chucks. Different machine tool brands may use slightly different acronyms (like SK or SX), but DC and SDC are interchangeable.
Q3: Can a DC8 collet clamp a 7.5mm tool?
A: Unlike ER collets, DC collets have a very limited collapse range to maintain their extreme accuracy. A standard DC collet is designed to clamp the exact size tool shank (e.g., an 8.0mm collet for an 8.0mm shank). While some offer a 0.5mm collapse range, for the best runout (≤ 0.005mm) and gripping force, we strongly recommend using the exact size collet for your cutting tool.
Q4: Do I need a special wrench for the DC slim chuck nut?
A: Yes. Because the nut is designed to be as slim as possible, it does not have standard hex or spanner slots. It requires a specialized roller bearing wrench or a specific slim-profile spanner wrench to tighten the nut without damaging its perfectly balanced cylindrical shape.
