The Combi Shell End Mill Arbor is the critical connection between your machine's spindle and these large-diameter cutters. What sets the "Combi" (Combination) arbor apart is its universal design. It utilizes a removable drive ring (drive keys) and a central locking screw, allowing a single tool holder to securely clamp two different types of cutters: standard shell end mills (DIN 841/DIN 1880) and face milling cutters with cross drive slots (DIN 2079). This versatility reduces tooling inventory costs while providing the massive rigidity required for heavy-duty machining.
Dual-Drive Versatility (Combi Design): The inclusion of a removable drive ring allows the arbor to accommodate both longitudinal keyway cutters (shell mills) and transverse slot cutters (face mills), making it the most versatile milling holder in your shop.
Massive Torque Transmission: The robust drive keys engage directly with the cutter body, ensuring positive, slip-free power transmission from the spindle to the cutting edges, even during severe interrupted cuts and heavy roughing.
High-Precision Runout: The pilot diameter (spigot) and the taper are precision-ground in a single setup to guarantee a maximum Total Indicator Runout (T.I.R.) of ≤ 0.005mm. This ensures even chip loads across all inserts, dramatically extending tool life and improving surface finish.

Q1: What is the difference between a "Combi" arbor and an "FMB" (Face Mill) arbor?
A: An FMB arbor (Face Mill Arbor) typically has fixed, integrated drive keys designed specifically for face mills with a cross (transverse) drive slot. A Combi arbor has a removable drive ring. With the ring installed, it can drive face mills. If you remove the ring, the underlying keys can drive shell end mills with a longitudinal slot. The Combi arbor is more versatile.
Q2: How do I choose the correct pilot diameter (e.g., 22mm vs. 27mm)?
A: The pilot diameter of the arbor must exactly match the internal bore diameter of your face milling cutter. For example, if you purchase a 50mm diameter face mill with a 22mm internal bore, you must select an arbor with a 22mm pilot (e.g., BT40-SEMC22 or BT40-Combi-22). Always check your cutter's specifications before ordering the arbor.
Q3: Does the arbor come with the locking screw and drive ring?
A:Yes. All our Combi Shell End Mill Arbors are supplied complete with the central retaining screw and the removable drive ring. (Note: The specialized spanner wrench for the retaining screw is usually sold separately).
Q4: Can I use coolant through the spindle (CTS) with these arbors?
A: Standard combi arbors are designed for external coolant. However, we do manufacture specialized Coolant-Through (AD/B) versions of these arbors upon request, which feature internal coolant channels to deliver high-pressure coolant directly to the cutting inserts for improved chip evacuation and tool life.
